RECTOR’s R A M B L I N G S
Many, MANY thanks
Lent proved to be an
unexpected adventure for me this year. I am thankful I have not had a major
illness, hospitalization or surgery since I was 4 (1949). My surgery
interrupted the usual flow of the season providing an enforced rest in what is
usually the busiest past of the church year. I am quite fortunate my doctor
found the gall stones before they became a problem and decided to do surgery
before they became more of a problem. I was surprised I did not accomplish all
of the things I has assumed I would be able to do in the 3 weeks of
recuperation. I learned a lot including what it is like to be on the “other
side of the bed” from my normal stance in a hospital room. And I trust it will
make me a better pastoral presence
I am grateful to Bryan Bedell and Nancy Guenther for handling the liturgical and
pastoral life of the church while I was on my enforced rest. I am deeply
grateful to Lisa for all of her skill in holding things together and handling
all manner of situations that arose in my absence (as well as the myriad of
things she handles even when I am in the office). I thank Nancy Woodworth-Hill for handling the
Wednesday night book study.
During my recuperation
I received so many cards, calls and communications of caring and concern. I am
so grateful to you for your prayers and other expressions of your affection. I
knew I was being supported in prayer and that was a great help.
I am healing well and
on schedule but am told I will be tired for at least another month. I thank you
for your understanding and the many admonitions not to push too hard trying to
get back to my “normal” schedule.
A number of people have
noticed I have lost a bit of weight. That is not accidental. I am now on a
program under the direction of the doctor and nutritionist and we assume the
weight loss will continue for a while – accomplishing something I have needed
to do to preserve my health. It also
means I will be on a low fat, low sugar diet in the future – which is another
new adventure.
All sorts of changes,
experiences and adventures change the normal flow of the season and prepare us
for new experiences in the months and years to come.
I am grateful to all of
you who walk with me in this part of my journey and who support and encourage
me. Many MANY, thanks!

Study
Leave
Planning Task
Group
We are very fortunate as a parish. We have been given a great gift. Trinity was given a Lilly Clergy Renewal grant that will pay for a study leave for Don and Nancy beginning August 1st. The grant pays for their expenses, for interim staffing, and for renewal activities for the parish while they are gone.
But how is this study leave a gift for Trinity as
a congregation some may ask? Simply put – we are also going on a journey – a
journey of continuing to decide as a congregation who we are and what we are
called to be and to do. Our identity is not solely defined by the clergy, nor by the diocese or national church. This time can be an
opportunity for us as a congregation to focus on our spiritual growth and
learning even as Don and Nancy do so in a very structured and intentional way.
A Planning Task Group was established to plan the
parish activities and to make sure all the needful things are covered and taken
care of during the study leave. We are planning some special events to take
place both at
We will discover the worship, ministry and
fellowship of the congregation will continue – that the life of the
congregation while perhaps enhanced by the presence of the rector is not
dependent on the rector.
Don and Nancy are being very intentional about communicating their plans
for this study leave and will communicate with us approximately weekly on their
progress. This will be shared on our website and will also be shared on Sunday.
On their return they will have a great deal to share with us over the many
months to follow. We are also hoping to keep a journal or scrap book that will
detail our life to share with them when they return.
Trinity’s
vestry meeting for the month of March was a combined meeting with Trinity’s
long range planning group “New Horizons”.
This meeting was facilitated by Canon Carolyn Lumbard
on March 27th. Minutes will
be posted.
Evening
Series
Mark your calendars for a series of evening Covered
Dish Suppers and Book Study! Back by
popular demand, those involved in the Lenten Book Study decided to continue
their time of exploration and discussion.
Nancy Woodworth-Hill will lead us through Living Faithfully as a
Prayer Book People by John Westerhoff. The author “walks readers through the ways in
which the contents of the Prayer Book can (and should) shape the lives of those
who call themselves Episcopalians.”
We will gather on various Wednesdays at 6:00pm, dine at 6:15, begin our
study at 6:45, and end 8ish. The study
format will begin with a look at a snippet
of the Prayer Book, continue with a short
talk covering the highlights of the assigned chapter (which
are 10 to 15 pages), and end with a time of
discussion. The schedule is as follows:
April 9, Ch 3: Living as a Story-Formed
People
April 23, Ch 4: Living as a Pilgrim Peopl
April 30, Ch 5: Living as a Prayerful
People
May 7, Ch 6: Living into our Baptism
May 21, Ch 7: Living a Eucharistic Life
June 4, Ch 8: Living as a Reconciled and
Reconciling
People
June 18, Ch 9: Living a Life of Wholeness
and
Health
& Ch 10: Living a Holy Life
and Death
You may purchase the book on your own
(approximately $15), or we can make a bulk order through the Trinity office (please
pay in advance).
AIW says
“Save The Date!”
Members of
the Arts In Worship Committee want you to make sure to
be at the 10:30 service on April 27th. They have been very busy working with the
Youth Group on a special musical offering.
This year’s song is called Step Into the Joy
and can be found on Sandy Patti’s latest album. It is a very exciting and uplifting song
that everyone in the congregation will enjoy hearing. This year Megan Graney and Paige Janis will
be soloing and there may even be a special duet as well as other
enhancements. It is a wonderful way for
our teens to express their love and praise of our Lord.
Puppet
Ministry Committee
Needs Your Help!
Recently the Puppet Ministry committee met and
identified areas in need of help. Our
Puppet Ministry is a Trinity-wide ministry.
We would like to see as many people involved in this rewarding adventure
as possible. Currently, we are in need
of someone to help us with publicity.
We have some pretty interesting ideas but no one to market them. We are also in need to some technical
help. As you know, we now have a
beautiful puppet theater. We need
someone to help us with set up and take down for each puppet chat. We may also need help with lights and sound
from time to time. If you are learning
from and enjoying the puppet chats, won’t you please consider joining us in one
of these roles? Perhaps you have
another idea concerning the puppet ministry you would like to see implemented. Please feel free to contact Pam Fitzmorris
or Matt Graney. We would LOVE to see
everyone in our Trinity family involved in this calling. We have so much fun!

Recently, Jim and I had the opportunity to care
for our 4 year old grandson, Kyle Moyer.
During the time he was with us, we discussed people
who loves us. After a couple of
ideas, he said “I know who loves you, Mutti.” Asking him who he was thinking of, he
responded, “Jesus.”
